Men's Basketball Earns Impressive Win Over Shenandoah, 74-65

FROSTBURG, Md. — Senior Dale DeBerry (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) poured in a game-high 23 points to lead Frostburg State to an impressive 74-65 win over Shenandoah, Monday evening.

FSU (2-4) trailed at the half, 34-29, but rallied in the second behind a 58.6 shooting percentage (17-of-29) to earn the win.

Junior Antione McCall (Essex, Md./Eastern Tech) scored 17 points and led the team with eight rebounds while classmate Brian Green (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) had 14 scores.

SU (1-2) had just two players in double figures; Jeremiah Lawrence with 13 and Onyie Onunaku with 10.

The Bobcats held their only lead of the opening period, 4-2, when Green made a pair of free throws at 18:57.

The Hornets answered by taking an 11-point lead, 26-15 at 9:14. After FSU narrowed the gap to six, 26-20, SU again extended its lead to 11, 31-20 with 4:23 remaining.

Frostburg State would close out the half with a 9-3 run to bring the score to 34-29 in favor of the visitors at intermission.

The Bobcats began the second half with a 19-5 spurt to take a nine-point lead, 48-39, with 12:16 left. Six minutes later, FSU had pushed its lead to a game-high 12, 61-49.

With the score at 64-53, SU scored eight-straight points to cut the FSU lead to just three, 64-61 with 2:43 to play in the game.

However, Frostburg State built its lead back to 11, 74-63 with 22 seconds left and Shenandoah’s Lawrence made a late layup to bring the scoring to a close.

For the game, FSU shot 28-of-60 (46.7%) while SU was 24-of-67 (35.8%).

FSU returns to the court on Wednesday when it travels to La Roche at 8:00 pm.
