FROSTBURG, Md. — Ashley Traylor scored the game winner with 1:57 left in the game to give No. 15 Christopher Newport a 2-1 win over Frostburg State, Saturday afternoon.
Frostburg State finishes the season with a record of 6-13, while Christopher Newport improves to 12-3.
CNU scored the first goal of the game at 29:30 in the first half by junior Ashley Traylor.
Frostburg State answered the Lady Captains by scoring a goal at the 34:41 minute mark when freshman Kelly Filipowicz (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach)scored her team-high ninth goal of the season.
CNU held a 9-5 advantage in shots in the first half.
The play in the second half was back and forth but the difference was the number of penalty corners.
For the game Christopher Newport had twelve penalty corners while FSU had one.
Taylor scored her second goal of the day with 68:03 on the clock to give the Captains the win.
Christopher Newport outshot the Bobcats 18-6.
Bobcat goalie Jessica Brittingham (Pocomoke, Md./Pocomoke) made eight saves in the losing effort and falls to 0-3 on the season while Christopher Newport goalie Ashley Whipple had three saves in goal.
