Men's Soccer Loses in AMCC Semifinals to Penn State Altoona, 1-0

ALTOONA, Pa. – Mike Caster scored the game-winning goal with just under five minutes to go in regulation to lift Penn State Altoona to a 1-0 victory over Frostburg State in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament semifinals, Wednesday evening.

FSU’s season ends with a 7-11-1 overall record while PSA moves on to the league championship game with a 14-2-2 slate.

The game went scoreless through the first half with the Lions holding a 9-3 edge in shots while junior Alex Wilkinson (La Vale, Md./Bishop Walsh) led FSU with two shots.

The second stanza proved to be more even with Penn State Altoona holding a slim 6-5 lead in shots. Senior Bobcat keeper Derek Richardson (New Windsor, Md./Linganore) helped keep the visitors in the game with three saves during the period.

With less than five minutes left in the game, Caster headed the ball into the goal off a free kick from 45 yards out to give PSA the win.

Richardson played the entire game for the Bobcats, making five saves and allowing one goal. Lion goalie Mike Ginnona earned the shutout while making just one save.

“I'm very proud of our effort tonight,” said Head Coach Keith Byrnes. “The guys worked hard and they gave it all they had, we just came up on the wrong side.”
