YORK, Pa. - The Frostburg State volleyball team suffered two loses at a trimatch with Rutgers-Newark and York, Saturday afternoon at York College.
FSU (8-15) lost to York 3-0 in the opening match of the day. Game scores were 30-21, 30-21 and 30-20.
Freshmen Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) led the way with nine kills followed by teammate Chelsea Wassell (Westernport, Md./Southern Garrett) with four.
Defensively, sophomore Jennifer Wheaton (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) had 12 digs and senior setter Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) handed out 18 assists.
In the second match, the Bobcats fell to Rutgers-Newark 3-1. The Scarlett Raiders captured games one and two by the scores of 30-23. Frostburg State rebounded in the third game to win 30-22 but would lose the fourth set, 30-27.
Winterling had 23 kills and 10 digs while Wassell had six kills and 11 digs. Freshman Leslie Brown (Fort Washington, Md./Bishop McNamara) led the team with four blocks.
Wheaton recorded 20 digs and Hernandez posted 31 assists.
FSU returns to action on Wednesday with it travels to La Roche at 7:00 pm.
