Women's Soccer Beats Pitt-Greensburg in Overtime

FROSTBURG, Md. — Senior Lindsay Hoffman (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) scored a goal 1:33 in overtime to give Frostburg State the 1-0 win over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Greensburg, Tuesday night at Bobcat Stadium.

With the win, FSU improves to 4-5 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while UPG falls to 3-7-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the conference.

Frostburg State dominated the match; however, had difficulty putting the ball past Pitt-Greensburg goalkeeper Dana Huether.

FSU held UPG to just one shot the entire first half, outshooting them 16-1. Junior Jen Naylor (Riva, Md./St. Mary's) and freshman Amanda Drake (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) had great scoring chances in the opening half; however their shots would be denied by the post.

In the second half, Frostburg State continued their strong play, getting several opportunities from Drake, Hoffman, and freshman Lauren Lentine (Princeton, N.J./WWP North).

Pitt-Greensburg had their best chances of the game, with just 30 seconds remaining in the second half. UPG fired three consecutive shots in the goalbox that were blocked by FSU defenders and goalkeeper Stephanie Gwinn (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana).

The overtime began, with the score at 0-0, however, just 1:33 into the extra period, Hoffman would find the net off a pass from Drake. Drake attacked the endline and slotted the ball back to an oncoming Hoffman, where she hit the shot in from six yards out.

For the game, FSU outshot UPG 28-5. Gwinn recorded three saves for her fourth win of the season, while Huether made 17 in the losing effort.

The Bobcats return to action October 7, when they travel to AMCC opponent Hilbert College at 1:00 pm.
