WAYNESBURG, PA — The Frostburg State volleyball team finished 1-1 on the second day of the Waynesburg Invitational. FSU earned a win over Susquehanna but dropped the second game of the day to Mt. Union.
In the first match, the Bobcats (6-13) defeated Susquehanna 3-1 by the scores of 30-27, 30-22, 20-30 and 30-19.
Freshman Jenny Wheaton (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) led the team with four aces. Senior Carly McDonald (Owings, Md./Northern) and juniors Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) and Amanda Frantz (Friendsville, Md./Northern Garrett (Garrett College)) posted double-doubles. McDonald had 18 digs and 15 kills, Hernandez had 11 digs and 47 assists and Frantz added 24 kills and 15 digs. Freshman Caryn Wright (Pikesville, Md./Western Tech) led FSU with three blocks.
In the second match, Mt. Union defeated Frostburg State 3-0. FSU lost game one 23-30 and game two 27-30 and game three 26-30.
Frantz posted a double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs. She also added four blocks. McDonald had her second double-double of the day with 16 kills and 12 digs.
Frostburg State returns to action Wednesday for its home opener against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Penn State Altoona at 7:00 pm.
