St. Mary’s City, Md. — Despite outscoring St. Mary’s 9-5 in the second half, it was not enough to prevent Frostburg State from dropping a 14-11 contest in women’s lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Seahawks Stadium.
FSU ends its season 7-10, while SMU improves to 10-6.
St. Mary’s took an early 5-0 lead seven minutes into the game. Junior Kelley Duncan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) netted the first goal for the Bobcats at 20:06. The Seahawks scored four consecutive goals to take a commanding 9-1 advantage. Duncan ended the half with a goal making the score 9-2 at the break.
Senior Page Macey (Linthicum, Md./North County) opened the second half with two goals at 28:51 and 26:19. Four goals, three from freshman Lindsay Lamont (Sykesville, Md./Century) and one from junior Stefanie Ritz (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright), put Frostburg State within 10-8.
St. Mary’s scored three goals to earn a greater lead. Ritz netted two more goals at 12:00 and 7:32 to make the game 14-10. Lamont scored the last goal of the game.
Sophomore goalie Rachael Lewis (Laurel, Md./Wilde Lake) recorded 15 saves in the loss.
