Women's Basketball Beats Villa Julie, 64-59

Stevenson, Md. — Frostburg State had three scorers in double figures as they beat host Villa Julie, 64-59, Tuesday night.

The Bobcats (3-0) used an early 11-0 run to lead 15-6 with 11 minutes remaining in the first half. Freshman Caryn Wright (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) scored the final four points of the run.

FSU would extend its lead to 18 with 50 seconds remaining in the half before the Mustangs (2-2) hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to 37-22 at the half.

Villa Julie came out firing in the second half and cut the Bobcat lead to four with just under ten minutes remaining, but Wright would stop that run with a three-point play.

The Bobcats would make eight of their nine free-throws down the stretch to hold on for the victory.

Sophomore Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) led all scorers with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. Wright ended with 14 points and three blocks, while senior Stephanie Watts (Baltimore, Md./North County) added a game-high 15 rebounds.

Frostburg State returns to action on Friday when it opens up Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action against Pitt-Bradford at 6:00 p.m.
