FROSTBURG, MD — Junior
Amanda Griswold (Rockville, Md./Magruder) scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to give Frostburg State a 4-3 victory over visiting Philadelphia Biblical in field hockey action Saturday afternoon.
Senior Tawni Buck (Perryville, Md./Perryville) opened the scoring for the Bobcats (7-4) in the seventh minute off a penalty corner. She dribbled past several Crimson Eagle defenders and knocked the ball past goalie Bethany Hill.
Philadelphia Biblical (8-3) tied the score in the 14th minute when Brittany Sparling found the net. Seven minutes later, sophomore Brittney Blystone (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) put FSU ahead 2-1 on an unassisted goal.
Buck found the net with just 23 seconds left before intermission on a penalty stroke to give FSU a 3-1 advantage, but with three seconds left on the clock, Kim Diercks scored to pull the Crimson Eagles to within 3-2 at the break.
Jaclyn Myers found the net in the 55th minute for the Crimson Eagles to send the game into overtime.
The teams battled through a scoreless first overtime and then Griswold gave FSU the victory when she scored just 1:49 into the second extra session.
Senior Bissy Armstrong (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) had two key defensive saves, while senior goalie Kristin Cousin (Edgewater, Md./South River) played a stellar game and made six saves.
The Bobcats return to action Tuesday as they travel to Juniata at 5:00 pm
