NEWPORT NEWS, VA — Sophomores Diana Golden and Ashley Traylor scored two goals apiece to give Christopher Newport a 5-0 victory over visiting Frostburg State in field hockey action Saturday morning.
The Bobcats fell to 5-3 on the season, while the Captains improved to 5-3.
Golden opened the scoring six minutes into play off a feed from freshman Annie Gehring. In the 26th minute, Golden netted her second goal of the day when classmate Brittany Touchard passed her the ball off a penalty corner.
Sophomore Jacque Mayer found the net with 9:05 left in the first half on a penalty stroke. At intermission, CNU held a advantage 3-0.
Traylor closed the game with back-to-back unassisted goals at 20:28 and 3:32.
Senior goalie Kristin Cousin (Edgewater, Md./South River) played the entire game and made 15 saves in loss.
The Bobcats return to action Sunday as they travel to Randolph Macon at 2:00 pm.
