Volleyball Defeats Division II Pitt-Johnstown

FROSTBURG, MD — Frostburg State defeated Division II Pitt-Johnstown 3-1 on Wednesay evening to open their home schedule. The Bobcats lost the first game 30-28 before rebounding to win the next three games, 30-21, 30-25 and 30-21.

Seniors Jodi Carpenter (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) and Lauren Petrick (Denton, Md./North Caroline) led the Bobcat attack with 18 kills apiece.

Sophomore Kelly May (Flintstone, Md./Fort Hill) had 16 kills, while junior Carly McDonald (Owings, Md./Northern) added 14.

Senior Carrie Ness (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) led FSU in passing with 45 assists with sophomore Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) dishing out another 22.

Senior Sam Seyfferth (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) added 16 digs on defense.

“It’s nice to avenge the last two years of defeats to UPJ,” said Head Coach Jeff Billington. “Hopefully we can use this to build momentum for this weekend’s Washington and Lee tournament.”

The Bobcats return to action Friday, September 10 when they play Mary Washington in the Washington & Lee tournament.
