POTSDAM, NY – Frostburg State men’s soccer opened its season with a 1-0 win over Clarkson University (1-1) in the opening round of the Doug May Lotto Classic Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Kenny Dotter (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) scored his first career goal in the 56th minute as he stole the ball and blasted a shot into the top corner of the net.
Junior goalie Bryn Varhol (Alexandria, Va./Bishop O'Connell) made six saves and picked up his third career shutout.
The Bobcats won despite being outshot by the Golden Knights 12-5.
"I am very pleased with the way our team played considering we had a short bench and 10 new players," said Head Coach Keith Byrnes.
Frostburg State returns to action tomorrow when it faces St. Lawrence University at noon.
