FROSTBURG, MD — The Frostburg State men’s soccer team lost to the University of Mary Washington 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
In the 19th minute, FSU (3-3-1) accidently knocked the ball into its own goal to give the Eagles (4-3) a 1-0 lead.
Mary Washington goalkeeper Elliot Jones stopped a Frostburg State penalty kick in the 22nd minute to keep the Bobcats from tying the game.
FSU broke through with 12 minutes left until halftime when senior Brian Tisler (Herndon, Va./Herndon) found the net.
At the half, the game was tied 1-1 with both teams recording five shots.
In the second stanza, freshman Ben Smith scored in the 62nd minute to give UMW the lead for good. He later assisted on freshman Luke Hostetter’s tally in the 73rd minute to put the game out of reach. Mary Washington outshot the Bobcats 7-0 in the second frame.
FSU junior goalkeeper Bryn Varhol (Alexandria, Va./Bishop O’Connell) stopped five shots while allowing two Eagle goals.
The Bobcats travel to Bethany on Wednesday for a 4:00 pm game.
