GREENSBURG, PA — The Frostburg State men’s soccer team lost to top-seeded Pitt-Greensburg 2-1 in the semifinals of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament Wednesday afternoon.

Pitt-Greensburg improves to 13-5-1 and advances to Saturday’s AMCC championship game against No. 2 Penn State Altoona, which blanked No. 6 Lake Erie 2-0 in Wednesday’s other semifinal contest.

Frostburg State, which entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed, falls to 11-8-2.

Pitt-Greensburg held a 1-0 lead at the break as Adam Zeleznick scored his 20th goal of the season off a feed from Mark Eckhardt in the 34th minute.

UPG increased its advantage to 2-0 just five minutes into the second half when Mark Eckhardt converted a pass from Dave Tintera.

Frostburg State got on the board in the 61st minute as freshman Kenny Dotter (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) knocked in his eighth goal of the year off a feed from sophomore Jo-Jo Duah (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook).

Junior goalkeeper Bryn Varhol (Alexandria, Va./Bishop O'Connell) recorded double-digit saves for the second straight game, finishing with 10 stops. He turned away eight shots in the first half and two more in the second to keep FSU close.

“We played a good second half but couldn’t catch a break,” said FSU Head Coach Keith Byrnes. “Our guys played hard and battled to the final whistle.”
