Field Hockey Posts Season-High Fourth Straight Win

FROSTBURG, MD — Junior Tawni Buck (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) and sophomore Amanda Griswold (Rockville, Md./Magruder) each scored a pair of goals in the second half to power Frostburg State to a 4-0 win over visiting Villa Julie Thursday.

The Bobcats (5-7) won their season-high fourth straight game and matched their longest streak under fourth-year head coach Nicole Bonvouloir.

FSU, which last won four consecutive games in 2002, also posted its third shutout in a row, the longest scoreless streak since 1987.

FSU battled through a scoreless first half for the fourth straight game before taking control in the second frame.

The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead just 1:40 into the second half when Griswold found the cage off an assist from junior Kim Smith (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson).

Buck then blasted a shot from the top of the circle in the 55th minute and followed with another goal in the 66th minute off a penalty corner feed from freshman Brittany Russell (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills).

Buck now has a team-high 11 goals, including five in the last three games.

Griswold capped the scoring just 1:10 later off an assist from freshman Brittney Blystone (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin).

Junior goalie Kristin Cousin (Edgewater, Md./South River) made two saves to improve to 5-7 on the year, giving way to freshman Amanda Runion (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) in the closing minutes.

Frostburg State outshot Villa Julie 24-4 and held a 6-1 edge in penalty corners.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday when they visit Philadelphia Bible at 1:00 pm.
