FROSTBURG, MD — Freshman Amanda Kotvas scored the game’s only goal in the 60th minute and fellow freshman Dana Huether made 12 saves to lead visiting Pitt-Greensburg to a 1-0 win over Frostburg State in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference women’s soccer match Wednesday afternoon.

UPG improved to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the AMCC, while FSU had its 10-game regular-season conference winning streak snapped and fell to 6-2-2 and 3-1 in the league.

UPG’s scoring run was set up by a lead pass from junior Jess Phillipi to junior Jen McIntosh, who combined with Kotvas on a two-on-one. McIntosh flicked the ball to Kotvas, who burried a shot in the left side of the net.

FSU had plenty of scoring chances but came up empty. Sophomore Danielle Carter (Rockville, Md./Rockville) had an open net in the 57th minute but her shot sailed wide right.

Senior Karen Kotofski (Glen Burnie, Md./Northeast) had her shot from the right corner go just over the net just 40 seconds later, and she was stopped from point-blank range by Huether in the 63rd minute.

Carter had her deflection stopped on the door step by Huether in the 74th minute.

FSU held a commanding 21-3 advantage in shots and a 12-1 lead in corner kicks. However, Huether made 12 saves for the shutout.

Frostburg State returns to action Saturday when it visits Hilbert for another AMCC contest at 1:00 pm.
