FROSTBURG, MD — The Frostburg State women’s volleyball team swept Lake Erie College 3-0 Saturday afternoon, to end the regular season with a perfect 9-0 record in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
FSU (27-5, 9-0) finished its third consecutive conference season undefeated and earned the right to host the conference tournament beginning next Friday at 6:00 p.m.
In game one, the Bobcats jumped out to a 16-2 lead behind the serving of junior Kristie Butt (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) and seniors Jodi Carpenter (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore)and Carrie Ness (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) before cruising to a 30-14 win.
Game two started off much closer as Frostburg State held a slim 12-10 lead over the Storm (2-23, 1-8) before sophomore Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) and Butt served it to a 22-12 cushion, before winning 30-17.
Game three was never close as FSU dominated and won the final game 30-15.
Carpenter led the Bobcats with 14 kills and four blocks while classmate Lauren Petrick (Denton, Md./North Caroline) added 11 kills.
Hernandez led Frostburg with 21 assists with Ness adding 20 in the win.
The Bobcats return to action on Friday November 5th in the semifinals of the AMCC Tournament against a yet to be determined opponent at 6:00 p.m.
