Volleyball Finishes Penn State Behrend Tri-Match 2-1

ERIE, PA - The Frostburg State women’s volleyball team went 2-1 in the Penn State Behrend tri-match Saturday. The Bobcats posted victories over Penn State Behrend and Ohio Wesleyan and lost to Slippery Rock.

In its first match, Frostburg State (25-5, 7-0 AMCC) defeated Penn State Behrend 3-1 with scores of 30-28, 29-31, 30-16 and 30-15.

Senior Jodi Carpenter (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) paced the Bobcats with 18 kills while recording 8.5 blocks. Senior Lauren Petrick (Denton, Md./North Caroline) had 16 kills and junior Carly McDonald (Owings, Md./Northern) had 12. Senior Carrie Ness (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) had 46 assists and senior Sam Seyfferth (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) had 19 digs.

In their second match, the Bobcats had their 14 game winning streak snapped with a 3-2 loss to Slippery Rock. FSU won game one 30-22 before dropping the next two 30-11 and 30-28. In game four, FSU captured a 30-20 win. The Rock outlasted the Bobcats however, winning the decisive fifth game 15-9.

In the third match of the day, FSU shut out Ohio Wesleyan 3-0. Game scores were 30-18, 30-19 and 30-20.

Petrick led the Bobcats with 16 kills, three solo blocks and two block assists while sophomore Kelly May (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) had 10 kills. Seyfferth had 21 digs with Carpenter recording 12. Sophomore Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) passed out 32 assists.

FSU hosts Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
