FROSTBURG, MD — Sophomore Tracey Lloyd scored three goals to keep defending national champion Salisbury University undefeated with a 5-2 win over host Frostburg State in field hockey action Saturday afternoon.
The Sea Gulls, currently ranked No. 1 in the nation, improved to 15-0, while the Bobcats fell to 6-9 this season.
Senior Melissa Webster started off the scoring for Salisbury in the third minute on a penalty stroke. Five minutes later, sophomore Megan Powell found the net. In the 12th minute, Lloyd scored off a pass from Powell. Lloyd’s second goal came with 10:33 left in the first half and gave the Sea Gulls a 4-0 lead at halftime.
Lloyd scored again in the 48th minute off an assist from freshman Danielle Twilley, making the score 5-0.
Junior Tawni Buck (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) scored in the 59th and 62nd minutes off penalty corners from freshman Brittney Russell (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills).
The Sea Gulls held an 18-4 advantage in shots as well as a 17-2 lead in penalty corners.
Junior goalie Kristin Cousin (Edgewater, Md./South River) had 11 saves for the Bobcats.
Frostburg State returns to action Monday as it travels to the College of Notre Dame of Maryland at 4:00 pm.
