FROSTBURG, MD — The Frostburg State women’s volleyball team swept visiting Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Mount Aloysius College 3-0 Wednesday night.
The Bobcats improved to 18-4 overall and 4-0 in the AMCC with their eighth straight win. FSU, which has shut out its last seven opponents, has gone 17-1 since opening the season 1-3. The Mounties fell to 8-15 overall and 2-3 in the AMCC.
The Bobcats jumped out to an early 22-4 lead in the first game on the strong serving of seniors Jodi Carpenter (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore), Carrie Ness (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) and Lauren Petrick (Denton, Md./North Caroline). The trio scored 18 of those first 22 points in leading FSU to an easy 30-17 win.
Frostburg State again jumped out to an early lead in game two, 16-9, and cruised to a 30-15 victory.
Game three was much closer as Mount Aloysius pulled to within four points late before FSU won 30-25.
Carpenter led the Bobcats with 11 kills and six solo blocks, while Petrick added nine kills and five solo blocks. Sophomore Alana Boyle (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) tied a season high with eight kills.
Ness recorded 23 assists and 13 digs, while senior Sam Seyfferth (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) added 12 digs.
The Bobcats return to action Friday when they host York at 5:00 pm and Elmira at 7:00 pm.
