FROSTBURG, MD — Freshman Elise Zimmerman scored twice and senior Billie Rickenbaugh added two assists to lead nationally ranked Juniata to a 3-1 win over host Frostburg State Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles, ranked No. 7 in this week’s STX/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll, improved to 11-1 with their sixth straight victory. The Bobcats had their season-high five-game winning snapped and fell to 6-8.
Frostburg State opened the scoring in the sixth minute when junior Tawni Buck (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) weaved her way through traffic for her career-high 12th goal of the year.
Juniata answered just 3:13 later when Zimmerman found the cage with an assist from Rickenbaugh off a penalty corner.
The Eagles took the lead for good in the 24th minute when sophomore Sierra Dickman scored off another assist from Rickenbaugh. Zimmerman closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 27th minute.
Juniata senior Melonie Sappe’ made one save to improve to 11-1, while FSU junior Kristin Cousin (Edgewater, Md./South River) had four saves and fell to 6-8.
The Eagles held a 15-5 advantage in shots and a 10-6 edge in penalty corners.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday when they host defending national champion and current No. 1 Salisbury at noon.
