104th Inductee
Baseball … Four letters in four years. Four-year starter at third base.
Career statistics include a batting average of .333 and a slugging average of .496. He had 84 hits in 84 games, 51 R.B.I.’s, 58 runs scored, 15 doubles, 7 triples, 4 home runs, and 31 stolen bases in 34 attempts. His strikeout ratio of one per 14 plate appearances was 8th best in Frostburg history at the time of his induction.
Because F.S.U. played only a total of 25 games in his freshman and sophomore years, Olin’s offensive career totals are not nearly as high as his statistics per-game ratio. His defensive career rankings are incredibly high: 1st with 87 putouts and 238 chances, 2nd with 10 double plays, and 3rd with 123 assists.
Seasonal statistics: annual B.A.’s of .273, .368, .366, and .318; S.A.’s of .341, .579, .585, and .455. His best year was 1967 when he led the team in slugging, doubles, triples, total bases, and sacrifice flies. He struck out only once in every 20.4 plate appearances that year, and as a leader in F.S.U.’s first post-season baseball team ever: a team that lost to #1 ranked Grambling in the south-east area N.A.I.A. championship.
