Soccer … Three letters in three years (no team in 1936). Starting goalie all three years, one of F.S.T.C.’s great goalies. In his senior year, when the Bobcats won the mythical “Southeast” soccer championship, Lou had 4 shutouts in the 7 games played. He did not permit more than one goal in any game. In the last 3 games of the year he shut out the University of Virginia, Carnegie Tech and High Point (the “championship” game).
Baseball … Four letters in four years, a starter all four seasons, usually as a catcher or outfielder, though he also had success as a pitcher. He usually batted in the third or fourth spots in the batting order. Statistics are sparse, but he is known to have batted over .500 in the 9-game season his freshman year. In the Fairmont State game his sophomore year he came in from centerfield to pitch 8 2/3 innings of relief, allowed one run and two hits to get the victory.
