Brad Nelson, from nearby Cumberland, Md., and Bishop Walsh High School, enjoyed a strong career in football, tennis and swimming at Frostburg State from 1987-1990 after transferring from the University of Dayton.

As a sophomore, Nelson played in nine games at linebacker and made 51 tackles, including two sacks, and recovered a fumble. As a junior, he played in all 10 games and led the team with 85 stops, including four tackles for loss and three sacks. He added three pass breakups and two more fumble recoveries.

As a senior, Nelson played in all 10 games and helped lead FSU to a 9-1 record, its best finish in its 29-year existence to that point. He finished second on the team with 73 tackles and tied for second in both tackles for loss (7) and sacks (5).

Nelson was also a member of the Bobcat swimming team his final three years, going right from the gridiron to the pool to compete in the freestyle, backstroke and relay events. As a senior, he won the 50-meter freestyle versus Duquesne.

Nelson also lettered in tennis, advancing to the semifinals of the ESAC Tournament at No. 3 singles as a sophomore.
