NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic Central Football Conference All-Academic team has been announced and 20 Frostburg State University student-athletes appear in this year's squad.
This year, the ACFC honored a total of 93 student-athletes that finished the fall 2009 semester with at least a 3.0 grade point average.
Conference runner-up Salisbury University had the highest number of athletes with 41 being honored, while ACFC champion Wesley College followed with 25, and Apprentice School had seven.
The Bobcat all-academic honorees were highlighted by All-ACFC selections
Anthony King (Germantown, Md./Northwest) and
Nick Payne (Frostburg, Md./Northern Garrett), who were both selected to the All-ACFC Second Team.
King led the Bobcats in rushing this past season picking up 636 total yards on 152 carries. King finished the fall semester with a 3.286 in health and physical education. Payne had 1,983 punting yards in 2009, averaging 38.1 yards per punt with his longest at 57. Payne grabbed a perfect 4.0 in liberal studies during the fall.
Sophmore Josh Volple (Germantown, Md./Northwest) also made the All-Academic Team this past season after leading FSU at quaterback for the last eight games of the season. Volpe accumulated 1,358 passing yards on 114 completions. Volpe had 3.8 in business adminstration in the fall semester.
The FSU student-athletes on the all-academic team are; King, Payne and Volpe joined by 10 other sophomores,

Fred Ramsey (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar),
Russell Collins (Frederick, Md./Frederick),
Jason Kaczor (Hollidaysburg, Md./Hollidaysburg),
Drew Rudisill (York, Pa./Red Lion),
Joseph Sharp (Hughesville, Md./LaPlata). Seven freshman rounded out the 20 student-athletes honored;
John Wood (Queenstown, Md./Queen Anne’s County), Darius Frazer (Pikesville, Md./Calvert Hall),
Brendon Blanchette (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key),
Kris Steckman (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill),
Shafiyq Hinton (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) and
Terrance Martin (Beltsville, Md./Good Council).
Frostburg State finished the season with a 1-9 overall record and an 1-3 ACFC mark with 20 student-athletes named to the All-ACFC team.
