Men's Basketball Loses to Top Seed Medaille in AMCC Semifinals

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Junior Steven Ogg (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) led Frostburg State with 19 points but Medaille used a big second half run to earn an 88-65 win over the Bobcats in the semifinals of the AMCC Men’s Basketball Tournament, Friday afternoon.

FSU (17-9) saw a two-point second half lead turn into a 14-point deficit as the Mavs (22-4) used a 16-0 run starting at 13:20. The Bobcats brought it to eight (64-56) but would not get any closer as Medaille surged ahead for a 23-point win.

Foul trouble also hurt the Bobcats as they were whistled for 28 fouls to just 12 against the Mavericks.

Ogg finished with 15 second half points, including nine in the first few minutes of the second as the Bobcats held the lead over the first seven minutes before the Maverick run. Junior Busha Koffa (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) finished with 15 points and nine rebounds. Senior Nick Sefcik (Shady Grove, Md./Damascus) added nine points and three 3-pointers.

The ballgame was c lose over the opening half as the game as it was tied four times and the lead changed hands six times. FSU held a six-point lead (15-9) at 12:55 but Medaille rebounded for a four-point lead (19-15) just 2:32 later. The Mavs later held a pair of three-point leads including a 35-32 lead at halftime.

Frostburg State finished 25-of-66 from the floor (39.4%) while Medaille shot 27-of-60 (45.0%). The Mavs also capitalized on the FSU fouls making 30-of-39 foul shots.

Keith Hack led MED with 19 points and 10 rebounds followed by Ron Malicki with 20 points and seven boards.

FSU finished the season 17-9 overall and 13-7 in the AMCC.
