FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State women's soccer team is headed back to the NCAA Tournament after slipping past Penn State Altoona, 1-0 in overtime, in the 2009 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship, Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium.

The victory handed the Bobcats a school record 18th win of the season (18-3) and places them back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005. The meeting was the second-straight for the two schools in the tournament championship game and ended Penn State Altoona's hopes of defending its 2008 title. The Lions (17-4) downed the Bobcats on penalty kicks, 4-3, last season in Altoona, Pa.
Junior Lauren Russell (Waldorf, Md/Westlake) blasted home the game-winning goal 4:03 into overtime to hand the hosts their sixth AMCC Tournament crown. Freshman Amanda Wharton (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) dropped a ball of to Russell who found the back of the net past an out stretched keeper.
FSU led 17-6 in shots and held a decisive 10-1 edge in the second half. The Bobcats also attempted two shots in the overtime.
The Frostburg State defense also turned in an excellent effort against Penn State Altoona (17-4), limiting the AMCC's second highest scoring team (3.05 goals per game) to just six shots, one on goal.
Lion keeper Lindsay Raspanti made eight saves, including six in the second half Bobcat surge. Bobcat starter Michelle Buckmaster (St. Leonard, Md./Calvert) needed just one save to win her eighth win of the season.
Game Notes: The Bobcats were competing in their 11th-straight AMCC Championship contest ... FSU is 31-0-3 at home over the last three seasons .. Frostbrug State last lost at Bobcat Stadium in the 2006 AMCC Championship to Penn State Behrend, 2-1.
